The problem

Most point-of-sale apps stop selling the moment the internet drops, which in many Kenyan shops is a daily event. The owner needed a till that keeps working regardless, and lets several staff sell at once.

What I built

  • An offline-first design with zero internet dependency: every sale, receipt and stock movement is stored on the device.
  • A Windows till as the hub and Android phones as extra selling points for multiple users.
  • Thermal receipt and price-sticker printing, barcode scanning with the phone camera, stock and customer records.
  • M-Pesa handled the way small shops actually work: reference codes captured at the till and pay-to details printed on receipts.
  • Money held as integer cents throughout, so totals never drift.

Outcome

In use by its owner in a working retail business.
